Coffee pod recycling comes to Oxford!

Starting 9th August 2021, weekly, kerbside coffee-pod recycling arrives in Oxford! This service will be part of your usual recycling and waste collection.
ODS/Oxford City Council will run the scheme with Podback, a new coffee pod recycling service. Podback is a partnership with Nespresso, NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto and Tassimo. Though the service currently covers only these brands, Podback will extend it to other pod brands soon.
Once collected, the coffee in the pods eventually becomes a soil improver while the plastic and aluminium are recycled to create new products. So much better than chucking them in your bin!
According to a poll by YouGov and Podback, 35% of coffee pod drinkers didn't know that they can recycle their pods. Also, a whopping 90% wanted to recycle pods using their local household recycling!

How to start your coffee pod recycling
The recycling scheme offers both kerbside and drop-off recycling, but first, you'll need to register with Podback.
Once registered, you ask them for bags for either plastic or aluminium coffee pods (or both!) as you must separate them for kerbside collection. Just place these bags on top of your blue recycling or green waste bin lids by 7 am on your regular collection day. Simple!
Alternatively, if there is no kerbside recycling in your area just yet, you can use Podback's Collect+ service: drop off your bags at the nearest Yodel collection point (you can even print the returns label in-store) and they'll be picked-up by Yodel.
