SPECIALITY COFFEE FAQs

About our coffees

What is specialty coffee?

Speciality coffee is coffee that scores 80 points or above on a 100-point scale by the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA). It is grown in ideal climates and has distinctive flavours with little to no defects.

You can find out more on our article Speciality Coffee: Understanding Coffee Quality Score

How is your speciality coffee different from regular coffee?

Speciality coffee is sourced from specific regions known for their high-quality beans. It is often single-origin and undergoes careful processing, roasting, and brewing methods to ensure superior taste and aroma compared to regular coffee.

Is speciality coffee more expensive, and is it worth the extra?

Speciality coffee is typically more expensive due to the quality of the beans and the care we take in tasting (cupping), processing, and roasting. However, our customers find the superior flavour and our ethical sourcing worth the extra cost!

You say your coffee is 'ethical', what does that mean?

Essentially, it means we ensure farmers, their families, and communities are rewarded appropriately for their work and for their coffee beans. We share their passion, commitment, and energy in growing amazing coffee and support their sustainable approach to farming.

You can read more in our article From bean to cup: a roaster's journey.

Do you sell ground coffee as well as beans?

Yes! Every coffee is available as whole beans and in various grind types to suit your brewing preferences. Our grinds include espresso, moka pot, Aeropress, V60, Filter, Cafetiere, and for Nespresso pods.

Do you roast your own coffee beans?

Absolutely! We micro-roast in small batches for maximum freshness using our beloved Giesen roaster. Its colour is reminiscent of the classic Porsche Miami 'baby' blue!

What's the difference between single-origin coffees and blends?

Single-origin coffee is from beans from one specific region or farm. It offers a unique flavour profile that fully reflects the terroir. We also offer a few coffees as blends These are where we carefully choose different beans to complement one another to deliver a truly unique flavour experience.

How should I store your coffee?

We recommend storing in an airtight container in a cool, dark place. Don't store it in the fridge or freezer as this can introduce moisture and odours.

Can I order a 'subscription' coffee as a one-off order?

Of course. However, our subscription pricing won't be applied and you'll pay full price. There will also be a shipping charge if your order is under £20 (subscription customers always get FREE shipping).

Delivery and refunds

What is the cost of delivery?

We do not charge UK delivery for coffee subscription orders or single orders over £20.

For non-subscription orders under £20 to UK addresses, we add a postage charge of £2.45 for 2nd class and £3.25 for 1st class.

We also offer local options if you live in or around Oxford. you can swing by to collect your order in person or choose an e-bike delivery for £2.30.

When does my coffee ship?

We'll usually ship your coffee within 24 hours of placing your order, though please allow 2-3 days for arrival after that.

How will my coffee be delivered?

Your coffee will be shipped via Royal Mail. We use recyclable packaging, and if you have an eligible Oxford postcode, we can deliver via electric cargo bike.

What if I don't like the coffee I've purchased?

This rarely happens, but we're all different and with different tastes!

If you receive a coffee and don't like it, we'll either refund or replace it at no cost, and no questions asked!
