We've been ranked Oxford's best coffee shop!
May 05, 2026
We're not ones to shout about ourselves too loudly…but when a feature writer at Oxford University's student newspaper spends seven weeks visiting every independent coffee shop in the city and puts us at the top of the list, we feel like it's news worth sharing!
The Oxford Blue, Oxford University's independent student newspaper, recently published a ranking of every coffee shop in Oxford. The article was written by student Arielle Trakhtenberg after she visited 31 independent coffee shops in the city centre, judging each on coffee quality, atmosphere, and suitability for studying.
We came first!
The ranking placed us ahead of some genuinely excellent Oxford spots - Tree Artisan Café, Colombia Coffee Roasters, Missing Bean, and Paper Boat Café, among them. And Arielle was clear about why we took the top spot: "Jericho Coffee Traders has the best coffee in Oxford."
We'll take that. 😊☕
She also noted that our High Street location is one of the smallest and busiest in the city - a fair observation, and one we're quietly proud of - a packed café is a good sign!
When we started Jericho Coffee Traders back in 2009 with our trusty 49cc Italian trike and a coffee machine, our idea was simple: bring amazing coffee to Oxford.
Sixteen years later, we now supply customers across the UK with our home delivery service. To also have the quality of our coffee recognised by people who know the city's coffee scene well - including the students who we reckon spend more time in coffee shops than almost anyone - genuinely means a lot to us.
We've always believed that great coffee starts long before it reaches the cup. It begins with the relationships we build with the farms we source from, the charities we collaborate with, the care we take in roasting small batches, and the attention to detail that goes into every espresso we pull. Recognition like this is a reminder to us that those things add up.
Come and visit us or buy our coffee online.
If you haven't visited us on the High Street, we'd love to see you. Arielle was right that seating is limited - it's an historic building and a small space, it fills up quickly. But if you're after a bijou atmosphere or just want delicious coffee to take away and enjoy while you explore Oxford, we think you'll love it. Or visit our larger Roastery café on Osney Mead.
If you can't make it to Oxford, our coffees are available to order online for home delivery. And if you take a coffee subscription with us, you’ll get 20% off your first THREE subscription orders and always FREE delivery. Just use the introductory code BREWCLUB20 during checkout for any of our subscription coffees.
Thank you to Arielle and The Oxford Blue for the detailed research and kind words - and thank you, as always, to everyone who visits us, orders from us, and keeps telling their friends about us.
That's what makes this all worthwhile!
